If you are stuck in a situation where you don’t want to give away your location; a Dakota hole can not only keep you fed and warm it’s a perfect way to hide your tracks in the wilderness. The idea is to dig two holes in the ground side by side and then connecting them with a tunnel.

Put your wood or any other material that you need to burn the fire with in one hole while the other hole will serve as a constant oxygen supplier that will keep the fire burning while producing a minimal amount of smoke. The method is perfect to lit a fire in a windy situation as all the required oxygen is provided through the tunnel, and you can also pretend that you are being followed by a herd of zombies.
