If you do not fancy tropical climate and want to stay inland while staying off the grid at the same time, then Missouri is your place. Partly because the state highly encourages those who wish to escape from the mind numbing hustle and bustle to mind-rejuvenating natural habitat. The great thing in Missouri state for those trying to live in the woods is that there aren’t many regulations, and people are left alone to live their lives however they wish.

Summer temperature averaging 80 degrees Fahrenheit and winter going down to 45 degrees Fahrenheit, Washington State is the perfect location for living off the grid due to its perfectly balanced weather.
Despite the fact that Washington state has somewhat stricter laws about the way you can build your house, but if you consider the other leniencies such as lawful milk sales, rainwater collection allowance and the ability to raise various livestock with ease then this state becomes a perfect place for a homestead. There are quite a few well established off the grid communities in Washington state with lands and properties on sale pretty much all the time.
Oregon has recently become very famous amongst the people seeking an off the grid habitat, not just for its serene woodlands and beautiful locations, but for many other reasons. Oregon is perhaps the only state that highly encourages people to come and live in its fair number of off the grid communities; the Oregon state carries out an advertising campaign to attract folks to its communities.
Famous amongst them is the community called the Three River Recreation Area: a large community that share among them their water supplies and solar energy produced at the site. Oregon has another famous community of off the grid survivors called Breitenbush Hot Springs which is a secluded holistic community which also serves as an amazing holiday resort. The people at Breitenbush have a very strange rule for the new comers: you have to first join the community and work at the site for at least a year before it is decided if you stay there any longer, which is done by voting. Despite the strange rule, who wouldn’t want to spend a whole year in country’s best off the grid/holiday community?
