Backpacking doesn’t necessarily mean eating bad food or eating less than you eat at home. For all of us that enjoy having a good meal, no matter where we are, it is important to have good food with us. Spending time in the wilderness shouldn’t be an obstacle for having a complete and tasty meal at any time of the day.
Breakfast is a fuel that gives us energy that boosts us throughout the day. Not all of us like to dirty a bunch of pots making the morning meal. So, to keep everyone satisfied here are some simple breakfast recipes.
At home put all the ingredients in a zip lock bag. On the trail, boil water put it in the bag and stir. After 5 minutes you will have your breakfast done.
Who says you can’t have your favorite pancakes while traveling? Mix the dry ingredients, the milk, and the sugar in a zip lock bag at home so you can have it handy and ready. When you decide to have pancakes add the water and the margarine in the bag, seal it and squeeze it to remove lumps. Then cut one corner and pour into a hot pan. Cook until they become golden brown.
This an easy breakfast that will give you the energy to walk all day. Boil a cup of water, add the mix and cook until the oatmeal is soft enough to eat.
Snacks are recommended rather than having a big lunch on the trail. Stopping for a longer time can lower your energy and make your body feel lethargic. There is a risk that after a big lunch on a trail you’ll get lazy and can’t walk anymore. That’s why short stops and snacks are a better choice to keep you going.
Hummus is a protein food that can last for a week. Smash the chickpeas, add all the other ingredients and make a smooth paste. Serve it with pita bread or tortilla.
Spread the cream cheese on the tortillas, cut the salmon, wrap it and eat it. A good way to keep the tortillas from breaking is to carry them between two plastic plates.
On a tortilla cut slices of banana and add the peanut butter. Wrap it and enjoy it. This snack will give you the power to keep walking and feel less tired.
After a long day hike, you deserve to have a tasty and nutritious dinner. And if you are not a cooking person and you hate doing the dishes, there are quick recipes for tasty zip lock bag meals.
Soak the tomatoes in water until they rehydrate. Then take them out, boil the water, put the pasta in and cook it for few minutes. When done, add the tomatoes, the tuna, the cheese and the spices. Stir everything in the pot and dinner is ready.
Boil water and pour it in the bag with all ingredients. Then stir until noodles and vegetables are soft. Add soy sauce to taste.
This delicious recipe is very easy to make and will satisfy all your needs for tasty hot dinner. Combine all the ingredients in boiling water except the chicken. Cook for 15 minutes until quinoa is tender and then add the chicken. Your warm dinner is ready to serve.
