It is important to keep your feet in good condition. Healthy feet make you feel good because feet are involved in just about every activity you’re involved in and they’re essential for us moving about doing the activities that we love.
There are things you should do to keep your feet healthy and make sure they stay healthy, things that aren’t hard to do so there’s little excuse.
On Outdoor Revival we’re often posting up articles about adventures, people that have amazing survival stories and lots of stuff on getting out there and getting stuck in, that’s what we want for all of you as well as ourselves here in the OR office, a great, active life where we can get into the outdoors whenever we want to, or for some, whenever we can!
It’s essential that we keep ourselves fit and healthy so that we can many years worth of outdoor time and we’ve orientated this article around your feet, they carry you and everything you put on or hang off your body so they’re key to being able to adventure forth…
Firstly, you need to keep your feet both clean and dry. This is something that may seem obvious to most people, but not everyone follows these simple hygiene requirements, especially when you’re tired, or you don’t feel like your feet are dirty and need attention.
Carefully scrub and clean your feet with both soap and water whenever showering or bathing. When done, be sure to dry your feet well. By doing this, you help to protect your feet from fungus and infection that could take hold and cause some serious issues.
You should try to ‘tune in’ to your feet. It’s very important to regularly examine your feet for any potential problems that they may have. To perform an examination of your own feet is fairly simple, and it’s something that should be done regularly, such as once a week. You can do it after taking a shower when you’re drying off, paying attention to any signs of trouble.
An important part of foot health is looking after your toenails correctly. Be sure when cutting toenails not to cut them too short or too close to the skin to avoid injury and pain; an ingrown toenail can be extremely painful to deal with and can lead to deformed nails or surgery to remove the nails.
Trying to cover up any toe ugliness with nail polish or similar may hide a problem but will not make it go away. In fact, putting off a real cure can often make the problem worse.
Don’t share your shoes or other footwear with another person. Fungal infections can spread quickly among people. This is something to be aware of when it comes to sharing socks too because socks can hold on to bacteria that can cause health issues.
It’s common for people to sweat when they are exercising, and your feet can get very sweaty because there are hundreds of thousands of sweat glands in the feet. You need to be aware of how to handle the sweat and keep it from causing bacterial growth.
There are socks that you can buy that will help out with sweaty feet, mixtures of materials and compositions that can cut down on bacterial growth as well as help your feet breath better and keeping them drier. Someone who sweats a lot should certainly look at getting the right socks, well truth be told, everyone should have the right socks.
It is also extremely important that to wear shoes that fit correctly. If you wear shoes that are too small or too narrow, it can cause foot problems that can affect you for the rest of your life. Be sure to get properly fitted shoes that are the correct size for your foot and also do the job you want from them, there’s no point wearing boots for a summer walk along the beach or trainers for snowshoeing. Getting the right shoes with the right fit will make a lot of difference to the health of your feet and reduce the risk of injury.
If in doubt go and see your doctor, if you have a condition or you’re suffering from pain that persists get it checked out, our feet take a huge battering while they move us around our lives and activities, they will look after us if we look after them.
