Life hacks: for getting the best night sleep in a tent

Giving up the comfy mattress and the bunch of fluffy pillows is a big sacrifice for a lot of people. The truth is that sleeping in a tent is not always as quiet as your home, and is something you need to get used to. Camping allows you to get closer to nature but you are going to be far from all the comforts of your own bed. So even though it’s great to go camping and enjoy time in the wilderness, how do you make sure you have a good night sleep, because if you don’t you’re going to be cranky and tired the next day. Well, here are some useful tips on how to get a great night’s sleep even in a tent.

Get the right bed

How do you ensure a good night sleep camping?

Nowadays you can find a lot of bedding options for tent camping. Always buy the product that is light-weight and easy to inflate. Also, check the mattress’s resistance and ask how much weight it can take. You don’t want to wake up in the middle of the night sleeping on the cold floor. Bringing a small pillow along with the mattress will make all the difference, and you will feel like brand new in the morning. You can also stuff a T-shirt with some extra clothes to use as an improvised pillow.

Deal with the noise

There are campers that enjoy the sounds of the wild and the chirping of birds. On the other hand, there are also people who find nature’s sounds rather disturbing, and they spend all night awake. The smallest and the cheapest solution for these light sleepers are earplugs that you can find in any store and pharmacy across the country. Pack a few pairs of them in case they get lost.

A camping spot near the ocean shouldn’t be a problem because all you can hear there are going to be the waves, but forest campsites can be rather noisy with all the wildlife around, nocturnal birds, and even insects.

Temperature control

Sleeping bags vary widely in quality, comfort and ability to withstand the cold.

No matter what time of the year you go camping, the nights can always get chilly. Choosing the right sleeping bag is crucial if you’re to get a good sleep. There are sleeping bags made for different temperatures, so make sure to choose the right one for your trip. Basically, it’s always better to be warm than cold. If you get too hot at night because your sleeping bag is too thick, then unzip it and sleep on top of it. If you feel cold, boil some water before going to bed, fill your plastic bottle and place it in the sleeping bag. It will keep you warm for sure.

Stay clean

Going to bed without taking a shower is not allowed! Nobody wants to share a tent with a stinky person and maintaining a good standard of personal hygiene while hiking is a must. Use a sock or bandana to sponge bath in a creek, or if it’s cold boil some water in the cooking pot and shower with a small plastic cup. It’s going to be better for your friends, and for you as well.

Wear yourself out

Sleeping in a wet tent with damp clothes is not a good idea, so do everything possible to keep it dry.

Sleeping in a tent is a lot easier after a day full of physical activity. If you go hiking for hours, explore your surroundings, climb some hilltops, it’s more likely you will fall asleep right after your campfire dinner. Anyway, there is nothing much to do in the wilderness when the sun goes down, so getting an early night will be just what you need.

Stay dry

Sleeping in a wet tent with damp clothes is not a good idea, so do everything possible to keep it dry. Bring extra tarps to put under and above your tent to prevent the water from penetrating inside. Remove all wet clothes, socks, and shoes and leave them outside. You don’t want any moisture accumulating inside the tent. Stay dry and good luck with your next tent camping adventure.
