Best Value Campfire Recipes

When enjoying the serenity of the wilderness while camping, you can always treat yourself and your family to a whole host of simple and delicious meals that you can prepare in a matter of minutes.

Camping doesn’t have to be boring and savoring a nice spicy meal or a mouth-watering dessert only enhances your camping experience. Mastering these campfire recipes can not only feed you during your camping trips, but it will also most definitely earn you a status amongst your friends and family members as an expert campfire chef.

The best thing about campfire cooking is that you don’t have to do it alone. Everyone will be excited to be a part of the experience, people tend to get involve in more activities while camping, especially if it is something to do with cooking and eating.

 

Besides, it doesn’t cost much to prepare a nice meal on a campsite. More often than not, you will simply require a single pot and some fire; you can then experiment with all kinds of different ingredients, and whatever you end up, it will taste exquisite.

Frittata

 

Frittatas are perhaps the most easily cooked campfire dish and are super quick to prepare. If you have a cast iron pan and a few ingredients you have all that you need to make yourself a tasty dinner or breakfast. There are no rules and restrictions when it comes to making frittatas on a campsite: simply make use of whatever ingredients you have at your disposal. Even the leftovers from yesterday will add flavor and texture to your final dish.

To make frittatas, you will need:

  • Half a dozen large eggs
  • Cheese – ½ cup
  • Salt – 1/8 teaspoon
  • Any leftovers odds and ends, such as ham, veggies and beans
  • Italian seasoning – ¼ teaspoon

Take a cast iron pan, spray or pour cooking oil into it and leave it on the fire to warm up. In the meantime, mix the eggs and cheese in a bowl. Once it’s thoroughly mixed, add your leftovers, meat and veggies in the bowl.

Now pour the frittata mix into the pre-heated pan and cook until you feel it’s ready to eat. At the end add Italian seasoning or any seasoning of your liking, and you are good to go. Enjoy your freshly made Frittatas.

 

Vegetarian Chilli

 

Nothing tackles campfire hunger better than a nicely cooked chili. You cannot find an easier recipe than this to prepare on a campsite. If you look online, there are loads of recipes to choose from. Simply add all your ingredients into your Dutch oven and enjoy the birds singing and the wind blowing through the trees while the fire does all the work for you. The entire process of cooking chili in a Dutch oven takes less than an hour. However, the longer you let it simmer, the tastier it becomes, but be sure to stir it occasionally to make sure it’s cooking evenly and the flavors are mixed well.

Stuffed Peppers

 

No campfire food is named so to-the-point then this beauty of a recipe. Campers will love to be served with stuffed peppers after a long day of hiking or any other camp activities that build a healthy appetite.

Declare your own ‘stuff a pepper’ night by simply cutting and de-seeding the peppers and then asking people to stuff them according to their taste and appetite. For stuffing, you can use a variety of different ingredients, such as tomato sauce, cooked or boiled rice with shredded cheese or even beans. If you are not vegetarian, you can add chunks of meat into your pepper delight, sprinkle your favorite seasoning and savor it by the campfire.

Banana Boats

 

No boats will be harmed while making this meal. After mentioning some delicious and spicy meals, it’s about time that we give the due mention to lots of campers’ most beloved dessert. A unique combination of natural fruit with two of mankind’s most exquisite achievements marshmallows and chocolate, banana boats are guaranteed to leave you with a sense of satisfaction after a long hard day of camping.

Simply slice your banana from end to end and fill the slit with marshmallows and chocolate chips, or melted chocolate, your choice. Close the peel and wrap your banana in cooking foil and cook over the campfire for five minutes until chocolate and marshmallows melt. Leave the wraps to cool down for few minutes and then enjoy your banana boats with a fork.
