Smartphones have really opened up a new world for us as far as traveling goes. As long as there is a signal, you can access information that you would not have been able to a decade ago. So, when you take along your smartphone while traveling, what apps do you need? With so many apps on the market, it can be overwhelming trying to choose. Luckily, we at Outdoor Revival have narrowed down the list to a handful.
Citymapper works better than some other mapping apps for travelers because it allows you to plan your trips, including flights, tours, and any other travel information that you would want to keep track of.
This is the best place that you can go for currency conversion. It is really confusing to try to mentally calculate how much currency you need when you are traveling. Even when you look at the exchange rate, you are so used to thinking in your home currency that the real value can be hard to grasp. Using a currency app can help keep it clear so that you understand the currency differences.
This is a handy app to have if you don’t know where you are going to stay for the night. The app looks for last minute deals and will find available hotels where you need them. There is also an excellent around the clock customer service if you find yourself in a bind. If you have a layover between flights, having this app is especially useful.
Uber is not available everywhere so this app will only work in cities that have it available. Uber is like a taxi, but with regular drivers who are not necessarily professional drivers. The rates are usually cheaper than cabs and can get you where you need to go when you need to get there.
This app is essentially a virtual organizer. It will create a packing list for you to ensure that you pack everything that you need before you go on your next journey. The app also tracks the weather as well as your daily schedule to keep you running on time. The app will ask what activities you are doing and let you know what items you need to pack based on what you are doing.
If you are headed to another country and do not speak the language, you really need to get a translation app. Being able to understand what people are saying is important, but it is also important to be able to ask for help and read signs. Traveling to a location that uses a different alphabet is even more confusing, so having something handy that can help you out will take away a lot of stress.
If you are more of a Google fan, you can stick with Google Translate for your traveling comprehension needs. Like Google’s standard design, the app is easy to use, taking away any learning curve that could have affected you. This app is really handy with signs, letting you hold up your camera to a sign and it will read the sign for you, making it seem like you are actually reading the sign.
Traveling with friends? Splittr is the app for you. This app will split up your traveling expenses and bills between multiple people and keep track of who paid what for you. It will also convert the currency for you so you don’t have to do any mental acrobatics while splitting a bill in a different currency.
