The most stunning lakes in Michigan

Michigan has the longest freshwater coastline in the world, counting 64,980 inland lakes and ponds. No matter what your current location is in Michigan, you are always less than 6 miles from a natural body of freshwater. There are many land locked lakes as well as lakes connected to Lake Michigan itself. The natural beauty of Michigan state can be understood only if you go there and witness all these lakes yourself. Here are some of the most stunning examples in the Great Lake State that you can visit this spring.

Elk Lake is located in Northern Michigan, and it’s about a mile and a half wide and nine miles long. If you want to experience true Caribbean-colored waters but don’t want to travel out of the country, then visit Elk Lake in Michigan. If you have never seen its crystal-clear waters, it’s time to do it this year.

Lake Leelanau

Lake Leelanau North

Leelanau Lake includes two bodies of water, known as the South Lake Leelanau and the North Lake Leelanau. The Native American people who first lived in the area called the lake “ke-ski-bi-ag,” which means “narrow body of water.” The South Lake is bigger than the North Lake, and their total shoreline length is 41.2 miles. Lake Leelanau is far from the city noise of Traverse City, but close to the Sleeping Bear Dunes which will allow you to do some sightseeing.

Grand Traverse Bay

Grand Traverse Bay is a bay of Lake Michigan, and it’s 32 miles long. Traverse City sits on its south end, and the whole bay is full of cherry orchards. Grand Traverse Bay has 13 islands, and Power Island is the largest one among them. The Bay is a mixture of two distinct worlds: the trendy city life of Traverse City and the stunning views of Lake Michigan.

Walloon Lake

Walloon Lake

Walloon Lake is a beautiful glacier-formed lake in Charlevoix and Emmet Counties in Michigan. Now the area is a famous spot for vacation homes and cottages where city people go to relax for the holidays. The quintessential example among the Michigan lakes, Walloon offers plenty of water sports opportunities and endless relaxation for your friends and family. The turquoise water of the lake will make you feel like you’re somewhere on the Caribbean or on some hidden beach in Thailand.

Silver Lake

If you like the combination of sand dunes and blue waters, then Silver Lake in Michigan is where you need to go this summer. Off-road vehicle trails, swimming, hiking, fishing, boating, and picnicking are some of the activities that you can do in the area. If you don’t want to be active, just relax and observe the natural beauty that surrounds you. If you visit Silver Lake once, you will be back here every year. Who can resist having the two in one vacation?

Glen Lake

While we’re talking about two in one lakes, here is a gem.  Glen Lake is actually made of two large lakes connected through a narrow channel. Glen Lake is considered by many to be the most beautiful lake in the state. Its water is extremely clear and without big waves, which makes it a perfect place for boaters and swimmers. Also, the lake is adjacent to Sleeping Bear Dunes, which is one of the best views you’ll ever see.

There are many more gorgeous lakes in the state of Michigan that are worth visiting and spending your vacation in the area, but you can start with these few to experience the mesmerizing beauty that this state offers. Good luck!
