Summertime Camping – A tent to keep you cool

Many people are keen to use the summer months to get out of the city and spend time with nature. One of the favorite ways to get back in touch with the natural rhythm of the world is to go camping and leave most of the encumbrances of modern life behind. There is nothing like lying under canvas and listening to the soft sounds of the world around you. However, there can be drawbacks to this idyllic scene.

One of the major issues is heat. A tent that has been standing in the sun, with the flysheet zipped up, very quickly becomes a veritable furnace on the inside. Because of this heat, many of the things that you have taken with you end up in a sorry state. You open a tube of anything creamy and find that you don’t have cream but a thin liquid drizzle.

How to deal with the heat inside?

Beach camping seems idyllic but with no shade it can soon heat up inside your tent

However, a new company in Australia, Outback Logic LLC, is set to release an exciting new tent, the Siesta 4. The company claims that the lightweight, highly reflective fabric from which the tent is constructed, as well as the double wall construction with an inner insect-proof mesh layer, will reflect enough UV light so that the interior temperature of the tent will not rise above the ambient air temperature. In addition, the zip closures will keep the tent sufficiently dark inside to facilitate a snooze during daylight hours.

The tent has a floor area of some 64 square feet (8ft x 8ft) and weighs in at around 18lbs. It comes with 13mm aluminum poles which are sturdy enough to hold it up in bad weather.

Made from reflective material, the new tent is designed to keep a comfortable cool temperature inside on those hot sunny days

The tent may not be ideal for the backpacker market, but it will prove very popular with campers that regularly find themselves living under canvas in 100˚F temperatures. The highly reflective metallic type of material will ensure a good night’s sleep and the protection of your camping kit no matter what the sun throws at you.
