The Crystal Coast is an 85 mile long stretch of protected beaches in North Carolina. If you are a fan of small, charming towns than you will love the Crystal Coast. This area is a very popular tourist destination in summer, offering lots of activities for everybody.
Quiet beaches, small towns, historic houses, picturesque landscapes, and lighthouses are just some of the things to be seen on the Crystal Coast. The sound of the crashing waves and the seagulls provides a perfect backdrop to relaxing in a beach chair with your favorite book. While spending a few days just enjoying the beach, there are plenty of outdoor activities you can do here if you want to. Here are few of them.
Visit the charming town of Beaufort in North Carolina, not to be confused with the same-named town in South Carolina. The only difference between the two is the pronunciation. The best way to experience the quaint spirit of the town is to rent a bike and take one of the many different themed tours on offer.
Depending on what you prefer, there are culinary and history tours around town that can be done by bike or walking. Some of the culinary tours include the Beaufort Culinary Bike Tour and Bike, Brunch & Bubbles. Each of the touring bikes has a license plate with a name written on it. The names are usually herbs used in the kitchen including Rosemary, Saffron, and Thyme.
For an even more exciting way to get into the scenery, you can rent a kayak and paddle around the calm waters of the town. If you want to challenge yourself still further, try stand-up board paddling in a peaceful setting with a local guide who will take you out on the water.
There is a surprise for any animal lover who wants to visit the Crystal Coast. Offshore Beaufort N.C. there is a small island called Shackleford Banks that is a tourist and beach camping site. On this island, you can see beautiful feral horses running around freely. Low tide is the best time to observe them, but always keep a distance and try not to disturb them. Of the other species on the island the most popular are scallops, crabs and various sea animals, including summer nesting turtles.
The Cape Lookout Lighthouse is one more place you need to see. Climb the 270 stairs to the top and enjoy the majestic view. There are experienced guides who will tell you everything about the history of the lighthouse and the region. It’s open for visitors during spring and summer.
Lastly, a beach town tour is not complete without tasty food. Nice restaurants like Pescara Wood Oven Kitchen and Front Street Grill at Stillwater will provide you with good food and refreshing drinks after climbing the stairs or after kayaking. North Carolina’s Crystal Coast is a perfect area for a summer vacation full of plenty of outdoor activities for sports, animal and food lovers. It is a combination of a peaceful and active holiday in one. Spending time in Beaufort, N.C. will make you come back again.
Make the most out of your summer travels this year and visit the stunning Crystal Coast of North Carolina. You won’t regret it!
