7 Tips for great outdoor yoga

The time of warm and beautiful weather is finally upon us, and you know what that means. It’s finally time to scout and find the perfect locations for our outdoor activities. The beautiful weather brings excellent opportunities for every outdoor enthusiast.

With the perfect weather conditions, it’s time to leave the studio and take your yoga outside. After all, immersing yourself in the warmth of the sun is a natural thing this time of the year. Pack your equipment, get outdoors and be one with nature.
If you’re ready to take yoga outside, here are seven tips to keep in mind when doing it under the open sky.

1. Hydration

When you go to exercise outdoors, you have to remember to pack your water. Staying hydrated while doing yoga is essential to have a healthy and fruitful session. While exercising, your body will ask for refilling, so make sure that you bring a big bottle. You will quench your thirst, and you’ll have a great and healthy time in the outdoors.

2. Avoid solid surfaces

Hard surfaces are very uncomfortable for your feet, knees, and hands, and it may irritate your skin. Make sure that you avoid hard terrains, like rocks, roads, etc. To make sure that you protect your skin and joints, always take a good quality yoga mat with you.

3. Careful in the sand

With the sound of the ocean and beautiful horizons, the beach is the perfect place to practice yoga. But, you have to be very careful when doing yoga in the sand. The surface on the beach is uneven, and you might twist your joints while doing your pose and you don’t want to do that.

Having a yoga mat under your feet may be a good option for safe yoga on the beach. Just make sure that you place it where the sand is densely packed, to avoid it shifting.

4. Avoid bumpy ground

When you practice yoga, you don’t want the surface to interfere with your balance. Having uneven terrain under your feet may cause an injury while doing a pose. So, make sure that you avoid sand, stones, and spots in the park where the ground is uneven.

5. Sunblock

Protecting your skin is crucial when you exercise outside in the sun. Make sure that you alway carry a sunscreen with you and adequately apply it to your skin. Apply the sunscreen 30 minutes before heading out, and make sure you wash and dry your hands. You don’t want to slip on the mat, ground, or deck.

6. Watch out for bugs

Nobody wants annoying bugs getting on the way of achieving a zen state. Avoiding bugs is pretty difficult, especially if you’re doing yoga on the grass. Unless you don’t mind them, make sure that you get as far away from their home. Another way to get rid of them is to use some bug repellent. It’s a handy tool that allows you a peaceful and uninterrupted time.

7. Avoid midday hours

Doing yoga outside means that you might risk getting sun damage. Getting a sunburn will ruin your exercise, and your whole day. So, make sure that you practice during cooler hours when the sun is not so intense. You could go in the morning to watch the sunrise, or in the evening to catch some fresh air.
